Cocktail Party

As we have grown over the years we have made a few changes to the traditions at Kaleidoscope. One has been to change the potluck approach to the meet-and-greet by replacing it with a “Cocktail Party” meet-and-greet.  Having this type of sophisticated event in the open air of a pagan gathering is, of course, the brain-child of the ever refined, urbane and inventive Chris and Laurie Benson.

Come dressed in your best pagan cocktail attire, and bring your own alcoholic beverages. Some non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will be provided.

We will also be entertained by the stylings of Mary Anderson and Donn Roberts.

Remember that the entire rest of the week will be a costume party, to display your fairy, elf and gnome garb.

Friday @ 7:30 p.m., at the Firepit

Siren’s Swim

To honour the Water Spirits we will be taking the opportunity to enjoy the pond in cool of the evening. Join us by torch light at the beach for a night time dip.

You are encouraged to swim with a buddy, and children must be accompanied by an adult in the water. You have to sign in and out, and you can not be inebriated or you will be refused.

Staff Note: No projectiles, please.

10:30 p.m. to 12 a.m., in the Pond

Mead Making Competition

Mead, a.k.a. Fairy Nectar, will be flowing again this year as we sip,  taste and sometimes spit to determine who will reign supreme as the Mead Maker of the year.

Bring your mead and your sense of good cheer! Expect Great Mead and Spirited Foolery! Spectators welcome, but must be legal drinking age.

For more info see Joh or Bern,

(to be held at our camp site near the Beach Cabin)

Staff Note: Legal drinking age in Ontario.  None of this “But I am Cuban and the legal drinking age in Cuba is 9” stuff.

Staff Note: Also, years from past lives do not count towards your legal drinking age.

Friday @ 5 p.m., at Bernie and Joh’s camp site near Beach Cabin

1st Annual Redneck Games

Get out your plaid, your hunting hat, and your insatiable appetite for Malt, Hops and Barley.  The Redneck games are upon us!  Individual events will be announced as they happen.  Join us at the opening ceremonies (please provide your own opener).  (The event will take approximately 3 hours, or until there are no conscious contestants.)

Stag King Competition

Stag King is a legend. Want the Stag King! Slay the Stag King! Be the Stag King!  Open to men willing to challenge themselves in fraternal camaraderie.  Be prepared for physical activity, getting wet, as well as physical and mental exertion.  Boys, girls and women are welcome to cheer at start and finish; please keep the ritual sacred by staying away from the competitors during the ritual.

Saturday @ 10 a.m., on the Beach

The Trial of Loki

Is Loki Guilty?

- How will Loki plead?  Who will represent him?

- Will he be found Guilty, Innocent or Not-Criminally-Responsible-By-Reason-Of-Mental-Disorder?
- Can he even get a fair trial?
- Where in the Nine Worlds could we find an impartial jury?
- And, exactly what are the charges?
- If found guilty, will the court find the sentence of never-ending binding and the-dripping-venom torture justified?

Come out and watch the trial of Loki.
With a cast of crazy Heathen folks playing the roles of Odin, Frigga, Thor, Loki and more.

And maybe even Baldur …
If we can find him …

Bring chairs, snacks and water.  (You may be called for jury duty.)

If it goes anything like the last time this was done, be prepared to laugh and it might go on long enough for a smoke and bathroom break.

Wednesday @ 2 p.m., at the Stage

(Staff Note: Festival organizers are not responsible for anything taking place before official Fest opening, including bad Wyrd, hide-shifting into horses, forced dealing with dwarves or any other ‘adventure’ caused by the Son of Laufey.)

Wear Your Leather Bra Day

Style and comfort the Barbarian way … If you do not have a leather bra, please visit Helmut’s Forge!

All day Friday! OOK!

Rituals

Description

Where & When

Opening Ritual with Lady Pamilla

Come one and come all to join in Community to open the circle of the Festival.

Wednesday @ 11:30 a.m., Firepit

Main Ritual: Spirits of Pan with Richard James and Nicole

Satyrs, Nymphs and Dryads oh my! Come and dance, sing and do homage to the spirits with which we share our space-with the Grand Old spirit of nature-Pan himself. Beloved by the Ancient Greeks and (much, much) later by the English Romantics, this complex and earthy God will always remind us of our eternal and essential ties as pagans, to the Earth and Her magic. Dressing up in thematic costume is encouraged, as is bringing music makers of all kinds!

Staff Note: Well, almost all kinds … Bubba, the air horn needs to stay back at the camp.  Just bring the banjo and the mouth harp.

Saturday @ 3 p.m., meet at the Firepit

Women’s Ritual with Laura Jackson

Women, it is Lammas, the First Harvest.  This is a good time to acknowledge and celebrate of the goals achieved over the past year, but also to look at the ones that we haven't yet been able to achieve.  What is holding us back?  What obstacles stand in our way? What do we wish was before us?

Please bring something (small) that will symbolize one obstacle in your path.  Also, come prepared to part forever with that small something!  (You do want to part with it, don't you?)  Out with the old, and in with the new...

Sunday @ 2 p.m., at Sacred Space

Men’s Ritual: Men are from Mars with Franco Minatel

All men are made differently.  As an astrologer, Franco, through your placement of the Sun, Mars and sometimes Saturn can tell you what you believe the image of the masculine will be.  After reflecting and meditating on how the definitions apply to you, you will construct a poppet to represent that aspect in the form of a fairy or gnome if you want to stick to the theme of the festival ... or not.  Try to wear a plaid shirt for this ritual.

In order to speed up the processes during the ritual, find out where your planetary placements are before fest by emailing Franco at franco@soulbody.ca.  To find your planetary placements during fest look for the guy in the Crocodile Dundee hat.

Sunday @ 11:30 a.m., at Sacred Space

Closing Ritual with Lady Pamilla

Come one and come all to join in Community to close the circle of the Festival.

Monday @ 11:30 a.m., at the Firepit
